Found at an estate sale in Chatham, this vintage friendship basket takes its cues from Nantucket’s long basketmaking tradition.
Handwoven in cane with a solid wood base, fitted lid, and tall swing handle, it features an inset maritime scene of sailing ships, whales, and spouts at sea.
Measuring approximately 10" W × 6¾" D × 10" H, it’s substantial enough for keepsakes, correspondence, or the things that inevitably collect on a bedside table. And for anyone following the recent debate over influencers, island traditions, and who gets to claim Nantucket style, consider this a very good-looking way to enter the conversation.
